Differential equation (ode) modeling using hierarchical models originates from the end of the seventies and could be applied in software such as Nonmem. The technique is widely applied in for example pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic PK/PD modeling of clinical data. However, it is typically restricted to a frequentist analysis due to the restricted number of software available. For years, Winbugs (Wbdiff) was the only software that could handle Bayesian ode modeling. Recent attention to the field stimulated the implementation of the techniques in softwares, such as Nonmem, monolix, jags, mcSim, Biips, and most recently also Stan. During the session, these recent enhancements are investigated and applications of advanced models using these different softwares are provided.
